Ramadhan 1440 AH Crescent Observation
The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) organized a special telescope observation of the crescent of Ramadhan 1440 AH on Sunday, May 05, 2019. A large number of the public attended the session. Because the crescent was so young (16 hours) and so low (about 5 degrees by sunset time) and also because of the thick dust that accumulated above the western horizon, it was not possible to see the crescent using the 45 cm telescope. Nevertheless, the public enjoyed a nice explanatory session about the Moon and other topics. Dr. Ilias Fernini, SAASST Deputy General Director, and Mr. Mohamed Talafha, the observatory operator, conducted this special session.
