First Light for SAASST 5-m Radio Telescope: A Unique Image of the Orion Nebula at 1.4 GHz

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) "Radio Astronomy Laboratory" inaugured its 5-m radio telescope on May 14, 2019 with a unique image of the Orion Nebula (M42) at 1.4 GHz. This is the first time that a radio telescope of this size takes an image of M42 with a resolution of about 3°. SAASST is planning to add two more 5-m dishes to build a 40-m radio interferometer that will have a resolution of about 0.36°.
