A Cooperation Agreement with the ICRANet Director

The Chancellor of the University of Sharjah Signs a Cooperation Agreement with the ICRANet Director

His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, received Prof. Remo Ruffini, ICRANet Director, on a visit to the University during which they signed a cooperation agreement for joint scientific work and lecture organization in the field of astronomy, space sciences and technology.


In a speech during the signing of the agreement, His Excellency the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah expressed his delight at the signing of this agreement, which he said aims to promote technological developments and theoretical and observational research between the University and ICRANet in the field of relativistic astrophysics. The Chancellor then introduced the University of Sharjah, which is presided over by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. He pointed out that the University is one of the three largest universities in the country in terms of the number of students and programs offered as well as the specialized research institutes and centers it houses, and occupies a high rank according to the latest international universities rankings.

The Chancellor then stressed that the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Science and Technology at the University of Sharjah aims to spread awareness of the importance of the space sector and scientific astronomical culture, the development of qualified national cadres in this field, encouraging scientific research in astronomy, developing peaceful space technologies, and contributing to the national space sector and scientific projects.  It also focuses on developing national and international partnerships for the advancement of the national space sector through the provision of research laboratories, unique astronomical observatories, a modern celestial Planetarium and space exhibitions that showcase the history of the universe and theories of its origin and end.


During his visit to the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Science and Technology, Prof. Remo Ruffini gave two lectures, one on "Einstein, Fermi, Heisenberg and the Birth of Relativistic Astrophysics," and the other on the "Discover of Energy Extraction by Discrete 'Black-Holic' Quanta from a Kerr Black Hole in GRB 190114C."

The Cooperation Agreement they signed aims to strengthen initiatives and activities in the field of relativistic astrophysics, in addition to the exchange of experiences between researchers, students and faculty members, the development of data centers of astrophysics, and the organization of training courses in the fields of joint research between institutions associated with national graduate programs, as well as holding seminars, conferences, workshops and dissemination of joint scientific research in reliable scientific journals.

Dr. Tarek Merabtene, Director of the Office of International Relations at the University, attended the signing along with Dr. Ilias Fernini, SAASST Deputy General Director for Research Laboratories and Observatory; and Mr. Khalid Al Raboy, SAASST Deputy General Director for Financial and Administrative Affairs.
